my buddy and i went to Tampa for kite surfing late October last year. try to contact the guys at Extreme Kites in St. Augustine. they can give you detailed information as to where & when's the best time of the year to kite surf in Florida. But i say Tampa / St. Pete is an ideal place to ride! And based on our experience, once October rolls, the winds get more consistent for excellent launches from nearly any wind direction.

The best flat water spots in the world are in Miami & Key West. So if you can get down to those places, you will have the best riding vacation. The kite houses there also offer water taxi service to the large areas of shallow flat water with no crowds. u are guaranteed with a 360-degree wind. hands down to the best kiting area there is! and oh, the nightlife there is legendary too!

wow, thanks everyone! i have some extra questions though.. do you have an idea of the water & air temperature there from December to January? & also i'm not used to ride in a place where sharks & other big scary creatures live & stay. i'm just a little worried on how's the situation down THERE? how big is the possibility & the danger of encountering a shark? do you have any other suggestions & recommendations?

hi!! you know, there are tons of sharks in the Gulf but i never really heard of kiters who ever had an issue with them.. But as far as jelly fishes are concerned, i've come across the ones with annoying stings! also, im not sure if there are man-o-wars there. we went september last year and the locals said that the season just started. we've had wind pretty much every day for 3 weeks! as for the suit, i wore a full suit with a skin on the outside so it could block the wind. and i can say it worked well for me all throughout the winter. remember that the wind-blocking skin they put on the kiting wetsuit is a must!
