Currently on Maui, government officials are proposing rules that, if passed, would be very restrictive for water sports instruction businesses. The end result would be many long established operations would close and prices for instruction would most likely have to increase to the point of being unaffordable. Please consider writing to our local officials in support of kiteboarding and windsurfing lessons. Email addresses are listed below...

Essentially, one newly proposed rule of limiting 2 instructors per business permit would force the closure of many qualified commercial water sports instruction providers. In addition, the local government officials are proposing to restrict all schools to one small area thereby eliminating the option to change venues should the conditions change or should the area become too congested. It is amazing the lack of foresight our county officials are apparently displaying by not taking into consideration the fact that some of these newly proposed rules are going to financially ruin long established businesses.
I appreciate that some or many readers may wonder how this situation on Maui could affect them or why they should get involved. Please realize that government officials around the USA and in other countries will be observing what happens here. We don't want any areas around the world closed down and are putting up our best efforts to self-regulate the sport and to come together, where ever needed, to assist riders in protecting and keeping our ocean playgrounds open.
If you wish to send your comments directly to me, I will forward them to the appropriate officials. Thanks again for considering to write.
