Hey guys! Every now & then, i keep trying out different options & tricks for my board. I wanna be able to learn how it is to ride backwards (so i could get out of anything scary that might happen). Did you ever try riding the wave's direction backwards?
Do you think fins are still necessary when riding backwards?

not a problem with that one. riding backwards is really something you can do as a trick. but i don't recommend that you use fins in doing so it will only catch pretty badly., unless you're going down the wave.. what i can recommend if you really are looking for something that can make riding backwards more comfortably is a mutant type board..

There are some boards that are really good for riding backwards.. but you really have to stomp on the back foot and let it take the place of your front foot.. then you can pick up the tail w/c is now in front.. it may feel a bit loosened but it works! but for safety purposes, try doing it first during safe conditions, do not head out yet to the heavy winds!

wow! oh well, riding backwards is something i can definitely do. but mind you, it's not easy. and riding backwards while wearing fins would only feel like riding on a board with soap! you won't be able to steer and you'll crash once your fins catch.. Much much easier if you'll first use a twin tip when starting..

Yes, i have to agree with that one.. Riding backwards with your kiteboard gear and all can easily be done, but going upwind is a no-no, forget it! because the soft kiteboard rails that are close to the nose will not and cannot hold any edge.

Like what most of them agreed on above, forget about riding a full directional kiteboard backwards when escaping a shorebreak! you can escape more easily if you won't do it that way. and if you cant do it still through your local break, you can simply get a mutant instead..

i also ride my directional kiteboard backwards, but only during the
following occasions... 1) when i'm too close to something that really
looks rocky enough at the bottom that it might destroy my fins. and
when i'm riding the last part of the wave, i just go backwards, out
onto the deeper water again. 2) when going in & out of the spots
with shallow water at a long distance before a break even starts. and
3) when going in & out of spots with rocks & shells at the
bottom. i ride my kiteboard backwards so that i wouldn't cut my fins
nor my feet!!
