Arizona Kite Surfing

Arizona Kite Surfing Imagine the thrill of Surfing and the relaxing feeling of kite flying; the giant waves and roaring waters fused together with the relaxing wind against your face, and what do you get? A different aero-water sport with double the excitement and double the fun.

Taking Surfing to the next level, Kite Surfing evolved from kite skiing and fly surfing of the 1980s. Also known as kite boarding, the sport makes use of a Power Kite that pulls the surfer through the water on his board, and what better place to kite surf than on the amazing waters of Arizona?

Arizona may have an average of two rain showers a year but when it comes to exciting water sports like wake boarding, wind surfing, and Kite Surfing, it definitely has plenty of water to share, with more than 16,000 acres of desert lake surrounding the state.

Lake Havasu is one the state’s most popular lakes. A paradise in the middle of an arid desert, this man-made oasis is a known tourist attraction and family vacation favorite. People- locals and tourists alike- enjoy relaxing past times such as boating and Fishing, as well as exciting sports like wind surfing and of course, Kite Surfing.

Other popular waters for the sport and other recreational activities include Lake Powell that runs across the border between Utah and Arizona, Salt Lake, Lake Alamo, and the popular Lake Pleasant.

If you’re really into an aero-water sport thrill in Arizona, you should also check out Lake Mohave. Because of its strong winds, warm temperature, and great water condition, Lake Mohave is fast becoming a great Kite Surfing site in the state. Kite Surfing organizations are starting to offer trips to this lake today.

If you’re coming to Arizona, you should have a Kite Surfing set ready in your car. Brand new kites cost from $600 to $1500. If you are new to the sport, it might be more convenient if you buy a complete Kite Surfing package which includes your board. These packages range from $1500 to $2000 - a little pricey but definitely worth it. Packages include kite, kiteboard, control bar, lines, and harness. If you are already into Surfing, you can have your board converted into a kite board so you can save money. You can also get a secondhand board.

Arizona Kite Surfing is truly a great experience. With the right equipment and attitude, you will be able to experience what Kite Surfing is all about.
