Kite Surfing Boards - Features
You can use almost anything as a Kite Surfing Board: surfboards, hybrids, wakeboards, skim-type boards, Snowboards and of course, kite boards. But it would still be best if you use a board which is specifically built for Kite Surfing.
Each type of board has its own features and characteristics. Boards come in various sizes and shapes to suit the rider's skill level, riding style, and wind and water conditions.
- Big boards (14-18 square meters) are perfect for low wind, large riders as well as beginners. These boards plane easily on the water and are longer and wider. A big board will enable you to surf on low winds and stay on the water longer.
- Midsize boards are versatile and are suitable to most riders and wind conditions. These boards are somewhere between 135-160 cm long. You will find that a medium-sized board is more manageable compared to a small board.
- Small boards (6-8 square meters) are great for high wind and advanced riders. Smaller boards are lighter, less buoyant, easier to re-launch, and have less swing-weight whem making aerial tricks.
You may need to use a smaller board as you gain experience and learn more techniques.
Wider Kite Surfing Boards plane easily and aid the rider's stability. They also allow heavier riders to use shorter boards.
These are the basic features of Kite Surfing Boards. Remember that your skill level, riding style, and wind and water conditions should be taken into account to determine the right board for you.
