Kitesurfer, Badly Injured in Cumbrian Coast
WEDNESDAY, 30 MAY 2007
A kitesurfer suffered serious head injuries when he crashed on a Cumbrian Beach last Monday.
The 26-year-old man was travelling across the sand at Silecroft, near Millom, on a board with wheels when his sail was caught by a sudden gust of wind which lifted him approximately 40 meters in the air.
When the wind dropped, the man plummeted to the ground and sustained serious injuries.
An air ambulance flew the man to a local hospital after the accident on Monday afternoon. He was transferred to Hope Hospital in Manchester, where his condition is described as critical but stable.
The man, who has not been named, is believed to be aged in his late 20s and from the Coniston area.
