Yaka Brings Underground Kiteboards to India
FRIDAY, 29 JUNE 2007
Benchmark boards for the up-and-coming sport of kiteboarding will be available in India for the first time through Yaka, an adventure sports company based in Goa. Yaka is the only Indian distributor of the prestigious Underground kiteboards, made in New Zealand.
Kiteboarding is a mixture of power kiting, windsurfing and surfing - the rider uses a large kite to propel themselves across the water on a small board. Kiteboarding is a relatively new sport that first gained recognition in the late 90s and is rapidly growing in popularity.
In 2006, the number of kiteboarders was estimated at up to 200,000 worldwide but the sport is relatively undiscovered in India. A kiteboarding school in Arambol, Goa, offers lessons from expert instructors.
Underground is a leading light in the manufacture of kiteboards, and the company is renowned for its progressive designs. Many of the world's best kiteboarders compete with boards made by Underground. Yaka will be selling a range of kiteboards to retail outlets, holiday resorts and adventure sports companies.
