Construction Displaces Kite Surfers in Dubai
WEDNESDAY, 25 JULY 2007
Due to construction, Dubai kite surfers had to leave for other emirates in order to enjoy the sport. This was because there was not enough beaches to accommodate kite surfing and other beach activities.
During the week, kite surfers used to stay in the "Kite Beach" in Umm Suqueim. However, the Dubai Kite Club started the ban on kite surfing during Fridays to prevent accidents between kite surfers and weekend beach goers.
The kite surfers had no choice but to enjoy their sport on a section of a public beach in Jebel Ali. According to reports, the beach was closed to the public to give way for building work. As a result, there was nowhere in Dubai for kite surfing on Fridays, which was the most popular day for the sport since most people were off their work.
