Kite Surfer Found Unconscious on North Wales Beach
WEDNESDAY, 26 MARCH 2008
NORTH WALES - A kite surfer from Shrewsbury was rushed to the hospital after an onlooker found him unconscious on the beach. The members of the coast guard, assisted by an RNLI team, were called to the scene along with paramedics.
According to reports, the man was injured by his craft on the Central Beach in Prestatyn. Witnesses said the victim was surfing alone when the blustery wind blew the craft over. He was unconscious but started coming round by the time the ambulance arrived.
The victim was taken to Glan Clwyd hospital. According to the Wales Ambulance Service, the man suffered from concussion, and his injury was not life-threatening.
With the increasing number of kite surfing accidents, Jonathan Parker of the Right Here Kite Now shop in High Street said the sport can be dangerous if the person does not know what he is doing. Kite surfing involves standing on a board with foot straps or bindings, using the power of wind blowing a large controllable kite to propel him across the water. However, it can also be perfectly safe and fun given the right knowledge on the sport, he added.
