National Kite Surfing Event Comes Back to Walney

Because of the successful Earnse Bay leg in last year’s event, the National Kite Surfing Championships will be held again in Walney this year. The championships will be held on June 13 to 15.
Gary Powell, owner of the North West Kite Surfing in Furness, is working with the British Kite Surfing Association (BKSA) in organizing the event.
Walney is known to be the windiest, low-lying place in England. The conditions are very much favorable for kite surfing since the sport generally requires the wind - kites vary depending on the aspect ratios or how much they are exposed and the angle against the wind. Kite surfing, which is said to be a combination of windsurfing, wakeboarding, surfing and kite flying, is now one of the growing fringe sports around the globe.
