Albeau, Ghibaudo Dominate Speed Windsurfing Event

MONDAY, 28 JULY 2008

Antoine Albeau (FRA, Starboard) and Valerie Ghibaudo (FRA, Loft Sails) are still leading the ISWC Speed Windsurfing World Championship in Fuerteventura.

Both races today were won by Antoine in the men's fleet, and Karin Jaggi (SUI, F2, North) in the women's fleet. In difficult conditions with breaking waves of up to 1.5 meters and up to 30 knots of wind, the majority of the competitors had difficulties to score good runs.

Albeau dominated the day, also scoring the top speed of the event with more than 40 knots now. Patrik Diethelm (ITA, F2, North) and Bjorn Dunkerbeck (SUI, T1/Proof, North) are tied in points behind him, but Diethelm takes second with the better top speed. Fourth and fifth spots are tied in points as well, with Cyril Moussilmani (FRA, Fanatic, North) ahead of Finian Maynard (BVI), who could find the fastest way through the chop today.

In the women's fleet, first and second spots are tied between Valerie Ghibaudo and Karin Jaggi, but Valerie scored the faster run, so she is still leading. Third and fourth are also tied between Marion Raisi (FRA) and Emanuelle Duby (FRA), so we have to expect the decisions only in the next races.

Racing continues tomorrow with the skippers' meeting at 10:00 and the first possible start at 11:00.
